Program - Tentative Schedule

Opening lecture: Practical application of dryer modelling and process understanding in pharmaceuticals and related industries by Ian Kemp (GlaxoSmithKline, UK)

A few keynote lectures are scheduled by leading scientists from Academia and Industry.

Sessions are planned on the following topics:

•             Fundamentals of drying

•             Modelling and simulation 

•             Food and agricultural materials

•             Pharmaceutical and biomaterials

•             Measurements and process control

•             Industrial processes and Innovative technologies

•             Energy and environmental implications

New: Drying in art and for the Cultural Heritage protection (see preliminary program) 

Following the positive experience of previous EuroDrying Conference, a Special Industrial Session and a Round table discussion will be organised.



The first EFCE Excellence Award in Drying & Freeze-drying ( will be presented at the 7th European Symposium to be held in Torino, sponsored by Criofarma.


The EFCE presents a biennial Excellence Award to recognise a PhD thesis published in the preceding three-year period. The award is presented to researchers or engineers in the early stage of their careers, who have made excellent contributions to Drying & Freeze-drying in the process industries.

PhD theses published between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2018 may be nominated for evaluation, with a closing date of 31 March 2019.

Nominations may be submitted by:

  • PhD supervisors at a PhD-awarding institution in an EFCE member country, or
  • Members of a national or regional member association of EFCE

The  best  poster will be awarded by Danone Nutricia Research, continuing the tradition from previous EuroDrying conferences.

A new award is launched. The  best  paper (oral or poster) presented in the new section Drying in art and for the Cultural Heritage protection will be awarded by Prodoc

Other prizes are planned for the best scientific presentations and to facilitate the participation from developing country; the website will be updated as soon as sponsorships will be available.
